PAWS ON PATROL

ELK GROVE, CA – Elk Grove Police Department (EGPD) is harnessing the power of local pet owners through a new community watch program called Paws on Patrol. EGPD Officers want to connect with the hundreds, if not thousands, of dog walkers in Elk Grove to help sniff out suspicious activity.

Based on the success of our Neighborhood Watch Program, this program relies on residents who may be more familiar with their neighborhoods than their beat officer to be an extra set of eyes, ears, and paws in fighting crime.  The ultimate goal of the program is discouraging crime before it happens.

A kickoff meeting will be held on Thursday, February 9th, at 6:00 PM, in the Elk Grove City Council Chambers (8400 Laguna Palms Way, Elk Grove CA).  During this meeting, residents will be trained on how to identify suspicious activity and how to contact the police when something isn’t right.  The meeting is open to any residents who regularly walk, either with or without a canine companion.  Please leave Fido at home for this session.

Paws on Patrol requires no extra commitment beyond an individual’s regular walking schedule.  For additional information, please email crimeprevention@elkgrovepd.org or call (916) 478-8122.
