This morning, officers from the Elk Grove Police Department assigned as School Resource Officers to the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) arrested a 14-year-old juvenile in connection with a threat he made when he called 9-1-1 using someone else’s phone regarding Harriet Eddy Middle School.
The juvenile stated a school shooting was going to occur and identified himself as someone else. Based on the investigation, Officers were able to identify the suspect and confirmed the 14-year-old acted alone with the intent to stay home from school. The juvenile, a student at a nearby high school, has been booked into temporary custody at Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on a felony charge (Penal Code 422).
We understand the concern and anxiety these types of threats create within our community. Please know threats are taken seriously and investigated to the fullest extent.
Parents, use this as a chance to talk to your kids about the seriousness of making threats, whether in person, by phone, or online. It's also important to remind them about the importance of reporting threats.
In partnership with EGUSD and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, which holds the primary contract for police services on district campuses, we remain committed to working with them to maintain a safe environment at our schools within the City of Elk Grove.
